Congress leaders, PM Modi & others pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

Congress leaders on Monday paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary which also marks 'Sadbhavna divas`.

Congress leaders on Monday paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary which also marks `Sadbhavna divas`. Earlier on Monday, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra visited the Rajiv Gandhi memorial in Veer Bhumi, New Delhi to pay their respects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to pay tribute to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. "Tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary. We remember his efforts towards the nation", PM Modi tweeted.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav wrote,"Humble tributes to former PM Sh #RajivGandhi Ji on his birth anniversary. His sacrifice, contributions and service to the nation will be always be remembered".

Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee also remembered Rajiv Gandhi on his Birth Anniversary.

Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi represented Uttar Pradesh's Amethi parliamentary constituency four times. He served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. Rajiv took office after the assassination of his mother, then prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. He was assassinated in a suicide bombing at Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991, and was later cremated at Veer Bhumi, on the banks of the river Yamuna.
