Minutes after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staged dharna in Uttar Pradesh's Narayanpur, she was taken by the police in a Guest House on Friday. The Congress leader was on her way to Sohnbadra to meet the families of the shootout victims, where she was stopped by the UP Police and she chose to sit on dharna. Following the high drama, she and other Congress leaders with her were taken by the police to move them away from the protest site. Amid this drama, the Congress party claimed that Vadra was arrested by the Yogi Adityanath government and they lashed out at BJP.

However, Congress' lie was left exposed after UP DGP OP Singh confirmed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was taken to the Chunar Guest House as a preventive measure because Section 144 was imposed in the area in the aftermath of the Sohnbhadra shootout incident. Speaking to Republic TV, the UP DGP confirmed that the Congress leader was not detained or arrested.

"She has been stopped going to Sohnbadra and been taken to the Chunar Guest House because she was doing dharna on the road. It is not detention or arrest. She was just stopped by the local police. In Sohbhadra, Section 144 has been imposed, she was stopped," OP Singh said.

Taking to Twitter earlier on Friday, Congress had alleged that UP's Ajay Singh Bisht government in Sohnbhadra is an "insult of democracy". The party claimed that the incident reflects dictatorship by the Ajay Singh government.

"UP's Ajay Singh Bisht government's forced actions against Priyanka Gandhi is an insult of democracy". Without written letter and opposing the Constitution's provisions, this reflects the dictatorship government of Ajay Singh Bisht government," said Congress in its tweet.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on her way to meet the families of the injured in the Sonbhadra shootout incident. On Wednesday, ten people were shot dead during a shootout in a village in UP's Sonbhadra district over a land dispute. In the shootout, over 20 other people also suffered injuries. The police arrested 24 people in connection with the shootout.

Speaking over the incident on Friday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath assured that strict action will be taken against the accused in the matter.

"29 criminals arrested till now, a single barrel gun, 3 double-barrel guns and a rifle have been seized. Whoever is found responsible for this incident, strictest action will be taken against them," he said.
