In the video of the incident, Congress MLA and his supporters can be seen can be seen pouring mud  on the engineer. The inspection site as per reports is at the Mumbai-Goa highway at Kankavli. As the video proceeds, Rane can be seen threatening highway officer and pulling highway officer from his collar. Narayan's son Nitesh and his supporters alleges that the act was a result of the local administration's callous attitude towards repairing of the potholes on the highway. Infuriated, Nitesh Rane and hence his supporters resorted to throwing mud on highway engineer, tightened him with rope and hurled abuses on him.

When Republic TV spoke to him and asked him as to why did he resort to violence on a citizen, he brazenly said that it is his duty to serve people and he will do anything to serve them. Defending his violent action, he said that it is his right to do so.
