Congress President Rahul Gandhi visits M Karunanidhi at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited the ailing supremo of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) M Karunanidhi.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited the ailing Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo M Karunanidhi. After meeting Kalaignar, the Congress President said the DMK Chief was "very tough and stable".

Talking to media persons outside the hospital, he said "I wanted to come and see Karunanidhi ji and stand with him. He has the spirit of the Tamil people in him. We have a long relationship with Karunanidhi ji and I am happy to see that he is doing well. He is very tough and he is stable. Sonia ji sent her best wishes to the family." 

The former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital on Saturday following a sudden dip in blood pressure. Recent reports issued by the hospital stated that the senior leader's health was normalising.

On Monday DMK leader and Karunanidhi's son, MK Stalin issued a statement requesting the public outside the hospital to remain calm and not create any disturbance. This was after the hospital had issued a statement saying that the former had suffered an unexpected setback in his health. However, after critical medical care, his vitals were normalizing.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was among the first ones who visited the hospital on Saturday to inquire about the DMK stalwart's heath. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also visiter the Kauvery hospital on the same day and wished him a speedy recovery. 

On Sunday, the DMK supremo was visited by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. During his visit, Naidu inquired about Karunanidhi's health and had a talk with his family. All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) leader Derek O'Brien too visited the hospital and extended his wishes on behalf of the state of West Bengal. "I met Mr. Stalin. Doctors are doing their best. On behalf of Bengal we wish him a speedy recovery. " he said

Among other people who visited the hospital were Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Noted journalist and CA S Gurumurthy, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, DMK general secretary K Anbalagan, Former Telecom Minister A. Raja and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.
