Agitation Against Economic Slowdown: Congress

Previously, Congress has taken a hit on the Centre for the slump in the GDP and for the slowdown in the economy. The Congress party claimed that global issues are not causing the slump in GDP, asking a white paper to be released on the "shrinking economy and rising frauds". Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala talked about the financial mismanagement and said that the GDP data only reflects it. "However, the malady is much bigger than what it appears to be. There is complete economic downturn, virtual shutting of manufacturing, lagging exports and surging imports, besides the loss of millions of jobs in all sectors," he said.

CPI(M) Takes a Hit As Well

The Communist Party of India also criticised the BJP-led central government on the economic slowdown, when the government was celebrating '100 days of success'. The attack came at a time when India's GDP growth has slowed down to 5% in the first quarter of 2019, as opposed to the 8% growth rate during the same quarter last year. The current numbers indicate the slowest growth in six and a half years. The CPI(M) attacked the Centre over growing unemployment and celebrating 100 days of success when the nation is facing a slowdown.
