With the Telangana Legislative Assembly elections inching closer, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday, December 3 promised to provide Rs 5 lakh each to every homeless person to build houses if the party is voted to power. An allowance of Rs 3000 will also be given to all unemployed individuals in the state.

"The Congress, if voted to power in Telangana, would provide Rs 5 lakh to every homeless person to build homes and an allowance of Rs 3,000 to the unemployed. It would also build a 30-bed hospital in every mandal and treatment up to Rs 5 lakh will also be extended to patients," said Rahul while addressing a public rally here.

Raising the issue of unemployment in the state, Gandhi scion asked the crowd to spell out how many jobs caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao created during his tenure. "Thirty lakh qualified youth of Telangana are unemployed. How many jobs did KCR create in his tenure?" he asked.

Training guns at KCR, Rahul alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief's family and contractor friends siphoned funds allocated for the Palamuru Rangareddy Project.

"Palamuru Rangareddy Project was Rs 10,000 crore-worth irrigation project. But KCR re-designed it to Rs 60,000 crore of which a substantial amount was pocketed by KCR's family and contractor friends. Due to this, people did not get any water," he claimed.

Continuing his tirade against KCR, Rahul added: "Everyone in the state is aware that KCR's new name is Khao Commission Rao. It is sad that Telangana's caretaker Chief Minister helped Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last five years in different ways. He helped them in the President and Vice President's elections.

Everyone opposed demonetisation but KCR praised it under pressure. He even praised Gabbar Singh Tax (Goods and Services Tax - GST)." The Gandhi scion further said that Prime Minister Modi is working to build two separate countries - one India where the Ambanis gain benefits and the other where farmers incur losses.

Telangana Assembly elections are slated to be held on December 7 while counting of votes will take place on December 11.
