The Communist Party of India has criticised the celebrations of ‘100 days of success’ by the BJP-led central government. CPI, on Monday, attacked the ruling party stating that they are "surprised" over the celebrations at a time when the Indian economy is facing a slowdown. This comes after the Modi government 2.0 completed 100 days in power. Denying any "panic situation" in the Indian economy and assuring there's nothing to worry, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday asserted that the fundamentals of the Indian economy are strong. The CPI has also imposed a string of pertinent questions in front of the ruling government over a few contemporary issues.

The attack came at a time when India's GDP growth has slowed down to 5% in the first quarter of 2019. As opposed to the 8% growth rate during the same quarter last year, the current number indicates the slowest growth in six and a half years. The data released by the National Statistical Office revealed that the Manufacturing sector grew at 0.6%, Construction grew at 5.7% and Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing grew at 2% in the current financial year. These three sectors showcased the poorest growth in the first quarter of the current financial year.

CPI Questions

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has accused the government of talking about 'success' at a time when the people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing what they called an "unprecedented crisis". The party said, “Growing unemployment, rising intolerance, suppression of democratic rights and pursuit of a divisive RSS agenda, and gross neglect of economic slowdown, characterise the 100 days of this RSS-led BJP government. The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India is surprised to note that when the toiling masses and the people, in general, are suffering due to the economic slowdown, the government is celebrating 100 days of success.”

The CPI has also attacked the Modi Cabinet 2.0 for failing to address the 'unprecedented agrarian crisis'. The party further said, "Nearly 20 lakh people in Assam are facing an uncertain future due to exclusion from the NRC (National Register of Citizens). People in West Bengal and other states are being threatened by BJP leaders and ministers with a new NRC." Lastly, the CPI said that they expect the government to realise the gravity of the situation and work for unity and retrieving the economy in the interest of the nation.

BJP on its ‘100 days of success’ celebrations highlighted the work done by the government during its second consecutive term. They stated the success behind the reorganisation bill of Jammu and Kashmir and stressed on the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir valley.
