The cross-LoC trade via the Kaman bridge in Uri has been suspended on Thursday, December 6 due to border tension. As per the official sources, cross-LoC trade will remain suspended through the day following shelling in Uri sector.
Reports suggest that on Wednesday, Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in the Kamalkote area of Uri sector and targeted Indian posts with heavy firing and shelling. In the shelling, one residential building and a shed of Hakim Ali Mir, son of Atta Mohammad Mir and resident of Bathard Kundi Barjala Kamalkote, got damaged.
Sub District Magistrate Uri Baseer ul Haq said that the affected family has been shifted to a safer place, and concerned authorities have been directed to shift the people to safer places in case the situation turns bad. On Wednesday, December 5, it is pertinent to mention that, two Army soldiers were wounded after the armies of India and Pakistan traded fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Army sources identified the injured soldiers as Sepoy Dupo Veshunath and Naik M Walim of 8 Rashtriya Rifles. The injured soldiers were shifted to a hospital for treatment. However, the damage suffered across the LoC was not immediately clear. The cross-LoC trade between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan takes places on four days in a week through Srinagar-Muzaffarad route in Valley and ChakanDa-Bagh in Poonch district of Jammu.
The cross-LoC trade and travel are considered as major confidence building exercises between India and Pakistan. In Jan, current year, the state government had proposed opening seven additional trade routes and two meeting points across the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. The new routes proposed for trade include Jammu-Sialkot, Chhamb-Jourian to Mirpur, Gurez-Astoor-Gilgit, Jhangar (Nowshera)-Mirpur and Kotli, TurtukKhapulu, Kargil-Skardu and Titwal-Chilhan (Across Neelam Valley)
