MoS (Independent Charge) for Culture Prahlad Patel's son Prabal Patel has been arrested in an attempt to murder case that left five others injured, at Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh on 18 June. He has been charged with attempt to murder along with BJP MP Jalam Singh Patel's son Monu Patel for attacking a home guard Ishwar Singh, his son and two others.
The minister's son, nephew, and his aides first allegedly assaulted the two men and then took them to the house of home guard Ishwar Rai. Ishwar Rai's son was previously close to Prabal Patel and Monu Patel, but then they had allegedly fallen apart. They called out Rai's son and attacked him with rods and a baseball bat, as per inputs. Seeing his son being attacked, the home guard came out but was also beaten up brutally. The accused allegedly tried to open fire, leaving five others injured in the clash.
50-year-old home guard Ishwar Rai suffered severe head injuries and is stated to be critical at a hospital.
Prahlad Patel said the following:
"I will only say this. This is an unfortunate incident. The law will take its course. I will not comment anything on this issue." He also refused to comment when asked if this had any political involvement in the case.
"My son Monu was in Jabalpur when the incident happened, while nephew Prabal reached the spot after the incident. Once the CCTV footage and the locations of the people involved are out, then we will know what exactly happened," said BJP MLA Jalam Patel, the Union Minister's younger brother.
Police said an FIR has been registered after a Himangshu Rathore lodged a complaint. Rathore has said in his complaint that they were assaulted by Prabal Patel and others at Gotegaon while he had his friend Rahul Rajput and several others were returning from a wedding in Kodma village. An investigation has been initiated and is underway.
