Cyclone Vayu: 10 Chinese vessels granted shelter at Ratnagiri port in Maharashtra

Fearing a mishap due to the brewing Cyclone Vayu, 10 Chinese vessels have sought shelter at the Ratnagiri Port in Maharashtra.

The Chinese vessels have been permitted to stay under strict security cordon on humanitarian grounds. The cyclone is forecast to make a landfall in Gujarat on Thursday morning.

The Indian Coast guard had warned that Cyclone Vayu will further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm:

As per Indian Meteorogical Department (IMD) the cyclone 'Vayu' will hit Gujarat between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region with winds upto 110-120 kmph. Several coastal districts of Gujarat are likely to face heavy rains. On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an important meeting to review the steps taken to tackle the situation. 

The Gujarat government is on high alert. It deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel in the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch Tuesday morning. It has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea in the next few days, while ports have been directed to flag a danger signal.
