Day 2 of Christian Michel's quizzing: Enforcement Directorate to seek custody of AgustaWestland middleman. LIVE UPDATES here

After the high drama over Christian Michel's custodial interrogation in connection with AgustaWestland scam on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said that they will question the alleged 'middleman' and will seek custody of Christian Michel once CBI custody is over.

Update at 16:50 PM: CBI continues to question Christian Michel. CBI received a request of consular access by British High Commission and process is on in the matter. CBI rubbished reports of summoning Christian Michel's driver. Their main focus remains questioning Michel : Sources. 

Update at 16:00 PM: Raveesh Kumar, MEA spokesperson, said "India received a request from UK High Commission for consular access. The matter is being examined within the  ministry and we will revert to the British High Commission. We followed the due process and after exhausting the legal process the extradition happened."

Update at 15:40 PM: Congress has responded to BJP's allegations saying that 'CBI is behaving like a remote control hawk of BJP.' 

"For past four and a half years CBI has not investigated any cases under BJP. BJP has been cribbing about AgustaWestland case since 2016. But they did not find any evidence against the Congress. Now it wants to link us with the lawyer. Now due to panic and they are scared they doing all of these. They are linking us with an expelled leader of Congress party. The laws, judiciary and all the norms which are for Congress party are the same for BJP," said Jaiveer Shergill, Congress spokesperson said.

Update at 13:35 PM:  BJP's spokesperson Sambit Patra in a news briefing said: "Christian Michel came back due to the effort of Modi government. The Congress party is upset. Congress leaders are rattled. They sent their team to defend Michel. He is the real face of congress party. This is the strategy of the Congress party.The family of Congress is not able to sleep since Michel landed. The whole party is now trying to defend Christian Michel. Aljo Joseph said 'somebody' had asked me to represent Michel. Who is this 'somebody'? Congress needs to answer this.This is a signal to the agencies that the Congress party stands rock solid behind Christian Michel"

Update at 13:20 PM: BJP Mumbai Suresh Nakhwa spokesperson has tweeted saying that two more people are defending Christian Michel in court.

Update at 11:32 AM: Christian Michel has been questioned ever since the CBI got his custody. After coming to CBI headquarters he was given some tine to sleep, then early morning, the questioning started which mainly revolved around the bribe chain. He had anxiety while being questioned, the doctors were called in CBI HQ itself. 

CBI questioned him about what he did with the money which was transferred to his account, and asked him about the officials who were bribed. Sources said that CBI will confront Christian Michelle with his driver for the details of the people he visited when was in Delhi. It has been suspected by the authorities that his driver was also the medium of money transfer.

Update at 11:20 AM: Aljo K Joseph comes out of CBI HQ after meeting Christian Michel. Sources have said that the meeting lasted for more than two hours. Joseph will be meeting him again at 4:00 PM.

After the high drama over Christian Michel's custodial interrogation in connection with AgustaWestland scam on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said that they will question the alleged 'middleman' and will seek custody of Christian Michel once CBI custody is over. The ED is expected to either seek fresh custody of Michel or move an application for questioning of the accused alongside the CBI under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The central probe agency may also file a fresh (supplementary) charge sheet in this case detailing the role of other accused.

The alleged middleman in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland chopper deal, Christian Michel, was brought to India late Tuesday night following his extradition by the UAE. Michel was taken to AIIMS following his arrival, for a medical check-up, as he had complained about being 'giddy'. After this he was transported to the CBI's headquarters in the national capital amid heavy security.

Christian Michel was produced before Special CBI judge Arvind Kumar. Delhi police and CRPF personnel were deployed right outside the courtroom as a security measure. As per sources, Michel was questioned about the trips he made to India and details of the meeting that took place with the Indian counterparts. Once he is remanded to CBI custody, he will be confronted with documentary evidence and other accused in the case.

CBI sought CBI custody for 14 days to unearth the conspiracy, whereas Christian Michel counsel opposes it. CBI said that 'Augusta money transferred in two accounts based in Dubai amounting to 37 million euros (Rs 300 crores). Need to know where and to who the money went to in India. Hence need police custody.' Later, CBI was granted 5 days custody of Christian Michel.

Meanwhile, Indian Youth Congress expelled its legal head Aljo K Joseph hours after he appeared for AgustaWestland middleman Christian Michel in the Patiala House Court in New Delhi on Wednesday. In a statement released by the Indian Youth Congress, the party has stated that Joseph appeared in his 'personal capacity' and did not consult with the party before appearing for Michel in the case.
