Day after declaring emergency in Karachi, Spooked Pakistan extends airspace closure till March 4

A spooked Pakistan has maintained that their airspace would continue to remain shut with restrictions until March 4, 2019, till 0800.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Twitter announced that only the flight operation to and from Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, and Karachi will resume under restricted airspace.

However, it was notified on Thursday that the Pakistan airspace shall remain closed until Friday morning, March 1, but extended this deadline until Monday. 

This development comes at a time when all flight operations, including domestic and international, were suspended in Pakistan in light of the recent situation.

Imran Khan's government on Wednesday issued a statement notifying an emergency-like situation struck the country for which specific measures are to be taken with immediate effect.

Facing the pressure global community on counter-terrorism after Pulwama terror attack perpetrated by JeM terror outfits and India then thwarting PAF's efforts to infiltrate Indian airspace - Pakistan has been forced into taking measures such as cancellation of leaves of all the officials.

Following a meeting conducted by the Pakistan army chief, an emergency has been imposed in Karachi while places like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been put on high alert.

I am directed to refer to the subject noted and to state that due to an emergency situation in (sic) the Country, following directions are issued for strict compliance in letter and spirit -

• All officers/officials should coordinate/liaison with the District Administration in any emergency
• Water Supply agencies to ensure proper supply of water.
• All councils are directed to ensure the availability of Fire Engines/Tenders, Bowser/Dumpers/Loaders/De-watering Machines/Pumps.
• All councils are also directed to ensure sirens in the ready position.
