DC Sahebganj: 'Coastal areas of Ganga and the Diyara region affected'

While addressing a press conference on October 5, the Deputy Commissioner of Sahebganj, Rajeev Ranjan stated, the coastal areas of Ganga and the Diyara region have been severely affected by the floods since September 28 along with a total of 51 panchayats of Rajmahal and Udhwa which are also affected. He further stated that necessary measures have been taken in flood-affected areas. Food has been supplied to all the areas; relief camps have been set up at many places as well, he added. Heavy rains and floods have hit the state of Jharkhand in the view of cyclonic circulation in the North Bay of Bengal. Several people have been evacuated and taken to relief camps. According to reports, since September 29, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have engaged in rescue and distribution of relief materials in the flood-affected areas of the state. 

On after-effects of floods

Speaking about the after-effects of the floods, DC Rajeev Ranjan stated a medical plant has been prepared by the authorities to prevent diseases like malaria, dengue, kala-azar, diarrhoea in the state after the water level recedes. According to him, doctors and nurses will be deputed in the coastal areas of Ganga for medical relief. Along with this, medicines are available in the flood-affected areas in sufficient quantities.

IMD forecast

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorm and dust storm in the state next week. In its report on Friday, IMD stated:

"The trough extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level runs from Northwest Rajasthan to Gangetic West Bengal, across South Haryana, southwest Uttar Pradesh and cyclonic circulation over western parts of Jharkhand and neighbourhood."
