Delhi Airport Resumes Operations After Dust Storm Subsides

  • Operations in Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were temporarily suspended for 35 minutes on Wednesday
  • A dust storm had hit Delhi due to which operations in the airport were temporarily suspended

After experiencing blazing heat for days, a severe dust storm hit the national capital on June 12. With temperatures reaching a peak of 48 degrees on Monday Operations in Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were temporarily suspended for 35 minutes.  

“The dust storm hit the Delhi airport at 6.39 pm today. The last flight arrival at the Delhi airport was at 6.36 pm. The last departure at the airport was at 6.38 pm. Till 7.50 pm, a total of 27 flights were diverted from the airport, " said an official.

 A dust storm hit several parts of Delhi on Wednesday evening, following which a thick haze was hanging over the city, affecting the visibility. However, the airport resumed flight operations at 7.15 pm. 

The weather department had, however, said on Tuesday that temperatures were expected to dip. Private weather agency Skymet said heavy rain was expected across the National Capital Region.

 Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet, said in a tweet that the national capital's temperature dropped by seven degrees in a span of just half an hour.

With the onslaught of cyclone Fani along the Odisha coast and the upcoming Cyclone Vayu along the Gujarat coastal regions, India seems to be in the throes of challenging weather conditions and officials have been working round the clock to ensure the safety of the citizens.
