Delhi and surrounding areas to get a breather from extreme heat as IMD predicts imminent relief

Areas in and around Delhi are likely to find some respite from the intense heatwave in the next 48 hours with the minimum and maximum temperatures of the national capital likely to hover around the 30-degree Celsius and 40-degree Celsius mark respectively.  

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds up to 40-50 km per hour with possible hail at one one or two places in surrounding states, especially in the districts of Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Shimla, Kinnaur, Sirmaur, Mandi and Kullu.

Churu, the gateway to the Thar desert, recorded its highest temperature at 50.3 degree celsius on Monday, making it the hottest place in the country, achieving a rare feat of remaining the hottest place for three consecutive days. The MeT department had on Monday predicted a severe heatwave in the east and west of Rajasthan for the next 48 hours.  

Places across the northern and central parts of the country continued to be face the extreme heatwave, receiving less respite from soaring temperatures. Heat wave conditions are expected to continue in many parts with a severe heat wave in isolated pockets very likely over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha in Maharashtra. East Rajasthan, Haryana, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana are also likely to bear the brunt of the summer heat.  

Jammu City in Jammu and Kashmir also recorded an above normal maximum temperature at 41.1 degrees Celsius on Monday. 

Nagpur, the biggest city in Vidarbha, was the hottest in Maharashtra with a maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the city stood at 29.7-degrees Celsius, slightly above normal. Meanwhile, Haryana also reeled under the extreme conditions, with Narnaul being the hottest place in the state at 47.2-degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Amritsar witnessed a hot day at 42.2 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana recorded a maximum of 40.5 degrees Celsius.

In Odisha, heatwave conditions continued with temperature soaring above 40°Celsius in at least 10 places. At 43.8°Celsius, Titlagarh in western Odisha was the hottest place in the state. In Andhra Pradesh, Nellore, Guntur and Prakasam districts recorded maximum temperatures above 45 degree Celsius. Adilabad district was the hottest in Telangana with a day temperature of 45.3 degree Celsius. Hyderabad and areas surrounding saw a brief spell of rain, giving them a relief from the 40-degree Celsius heat on Monday.
