Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reacts on Supreme Court's ruling, says "it's a big victory for democracy"

After Supreme Court's ruling that L-G can't be obstructive in government's functioning, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reacted to the verdict and called it  "a big victory for democracy."

Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia while calling the ruling a victory for the AAP government said, "now we will not required to send files again and again to LG for his permission, it will be a great respite for the Delhiites."

While slamming L-G Anil Baijal, Sisodia said: "The Constitution was interpreted for own convenience and L-G was working in arbitrary manner. The Supreme Court has observed that power is not confined with one person. It's a victory for us."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the L-G can't be obstructive in government's functioning while making it clear that Delhi can't be given statehood. While delivering a balanced judgment, the apex court batted for a harmonious relationship between the Delhi government and the Centre.

The Chief Justice Of India (CJI), Dipak Misra, while pronouncing the judgment, ruled for collective responsibility of the LG and the Delhi government.

"LG can’t interfere in every decision of the Delhi govt. Needs to be bound by the council of ministers. Cannot act as an obstruction. LG is not an independent decision maker,"said the CJI

The CJI also said the status of Delhi is a class apart and that the status of the LG is not that of a governor of the state.

The Supreme Court said that Delhi can’t be given statehood but LG cannot obstruct the functioning of the Delhi govt.

CJI Dipak Misra also said that there were 3 different opinions of the bench. The CJI said that the  bench has interpreted Article 239AA. CJI Dipak Misra also said that the judgment deals with many aspects of constitutional governance. He also said elected representatives much be accessible, approachable and should act in a transparent manner. 

The CJI, Justice Khanwilkar, and Justice Sikri said unanimously that there should be a collective responsibility. CJI Misra also said that decisions taken by constitutional representatives should have morality and reasonability.
