The Union Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Wednesday, visited a hospital in Patna to speak to the patients who’ve been suffering from dengue due to the flood-like situation in the city. Several roads of the city are still water-logged due to relentless rainfall in the past couple of weeks.

During his visit to the hospital, the Union Minister spoke to the patients and said that he has decided to visit the health center to check the preparedness. He said, "I am here to take stock of health services after the floodwater receded. There were 119 cases of dengue in the hospital, of which 16 are still here. Centre and State are working together to control the outbreak of diseases.”

Isolated areas still flooded

With isolated areas of Patna still flooded with water following last week's heavy downpour, the threat of a dengue epidemic and various other diseases is now looming large over the State and adjoining regions. As per the health department, as many as 900 dengue cases have been registered in Patna since September, when the heavy rains began and continued for weeks. The Bihar government on Thursday, October 3, began the fogging process in the waterlogged areas to prevent the risk of vector-borne diseases in the flood-affected regions.

The rainfall in Bihar, especially in Patna, took the face of the floods. A lot of people as well as animals lost their lives and the water gushed into houses, crippling routine lives in the city. Boats were also deployed to rescue people. Additionally, showrooms were also filled with water, making the consumables go bad. Apart from Patna, low-lying areas like Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Gardani Bagh, Dak Bungalow, and SK Puri are also submerged. The public, on many occasions, also banned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for not taking appropriate action on the current situation and said that he doesn’t care what the public suffers through.
