"Deplorable": Gautam Gambhir condemns attack on Muslim man in Gurugram, demands 'exemplary action' by authorities

BJP's newly-elected MP from East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir expressed anger over the attack on a Muslim man in Haryana's Gurugram, a day after he was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified youths for wearing a traditional skull cap.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the cricketer-turned-politician posted a series of tweets and condemned the attack on Muslim man to remove skullcap and chant Jai Shri Ram, calling it "deplorable" and demanding "exemplary action" by the Gurugram authorities. 

He further added that India is a "secular nation" giving instances from Bollywood in which he talked about Javed Akhtar's popular lyrics "Oh palan hare, nirgun aur nyare" from the film Lagaan and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra renowned song "Arziyaan" from the film Delhi 6. 

In his second tweet, Gambhir stated that his thoughts on secularism flows from PM Modi's mantra "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas (We stay together, we grow together, we trust together). He further added that he is not limiting himself to the Gurugram incident, saying that oppression on religious and caste basis.

As per news agency ANI, a 25-year-old Muslim man was allegedly attacked and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by a group of people on Saturday night while he was returning home.
