A day after the priest from Pushkar temple 'revealed' the Gotra of Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to poll-bound Rajasthan, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday took to Twitter and targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the ongoing issue.
In his tweet, the Congress General Secretary posted pictures of Rahul Gandhi performing various rituals at a temple in Pushkar, during his visit to Rajasthan on Monday. Moreover, the senior Congress leader also posted pictures of the official documents that states the 'Gotra' of the Gandhi family.
He went onto hit out at the BJP, questioning the ruling party as to how many more proofs do they need on the question of the 'gotra' or clan of the Congress chief. He wrote: "How many more proofs does BJP need now?"
Take a look at the tweet:
On Monday, Pushkar temple priest had stated that Rahul Gandhi's Gotra is Dattatreya. He also said that the Gandhis (Rahul Gandhi's family) are Kashmiri Brahmins and are Kauls, and their Gotra is Dattatreya.
The priest also presented documents showing the names of Rahul Gandhi's ancestors who have earlier worshipped at the Pushkar lake. The priest also clarified that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have all visited the temple, stating that the Nehru surname comes from a place in Allahabad.
During his election campaign Rajasthan on November 26, the Congress president also visited the Ajmer shrine and offered prayers.
Earlier in October, BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra had questioned Congress chief Rahul Gandhi about his 'Gotra'.
"I want to know if he is Janaeu-dhari. I want to know what kind of Janaeu-dhari is he. What is your Gotra?" said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra while addressing a press briefing in Indore.
