Chief election commissioner of ECI OP Rawat last week announced assembly poll dates for 5 states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram & Chattishgarh. There was also a huge anticipation among the political parties in the state of Tamil Nadu about the announcement of by-polls in two constituencies, Tiruvarur & Thiruparangundram constituencies in which Tiruvarur is significant since it was the constituency of DMK patriarch Kalainyar Karunanidhi. But the CEC told that the EC is notifying the two constituencies in Tamil Nadu because of monsoon season warning.

The Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu Girija Vaidhyanathan had written a letter to CEC stating that the state is facing heavy damages because of monsoon onset from October to December which also disturbs the life of the general public & hence requested the EC not to announce polls for these two constituencies.

The letter mentioned that one constituency named Tiruvarur is a Cauvery river delta district which will face the maximum damage during the monsoon season & mentioned the case before the Madras high court for postponement of Thiruparangundram constituency by polls.

This election is seen as very important since its happening after the demise of two top leaders of the state & hence this will set the political pace of the state. All the parties started equipping themselves to face the election & finally opposition parties have got only disappointment since the poll dates were not announced.

In a statement, DMK president MK Stalin alleged that the bypolls have been postponed as the ground level situation in the two constituencies were against the ruling AIADMK. He further attacked Chief Secretary of the state Girija Vaidyanathan by calling her as a propaganda secretary of the party.

"AIADMK is fully aware that if by-elections were held now it will be uprooted. Is there any precedent for postponing polls due to monsoon? When former CM Jayalalithaa was hospitalized during November 2016 bypolls we're conducted " asked Stalin

MK Stalin had also questioned the election commission for not announcing the by-polls in just two constituencies when similar kind of by-polls was announced for two constituencies in neighboring state Karnataka.

AMMK TTV Dinakaran made a skeptical comment about the same since he is also waiting for these by-polls after cracking the RK Nagar constituency being an independent candidate.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy who responded for this statement of DMK leader MK Stalin told that Its only the election commission which takes the decision when to conduct the polls & the state government doesn't have any role on it.
