As former Indian Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Manmohan Singh turned 87 on September 24, wishes from several political leaders poured in on the micro-blogging website Twitter. Manmohan Singh served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance regime. Numerous political leaders remembered his successes and hailed the economist for his achievements on his birthday. A couple of hashtags pertaining to Singh's birthday also started trending on Twitter.
Twitter floods with wishes for Manmohan Singh
PM Narendra Modi, who is currently on his US visit, also took to Twitter to extend his warm wishes. In his tweet, PM Modi said that he wished for Singh's long and healthy life. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his greetings to the former PM. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi lauded Singh for his selfless service, dedication and incredible contribution in developing the country and prayed for his good health. Former JD(U) president Sharad Yadav also greeted Singh on his birthday. His tweet read, "Wishing a happy birthday to #ManmohanSingh. Persons like Dr. Manmohan Singh are rarely born. Pray for his good health and long life."

P. Chidambaram, the former union minister of finance in Singh's cabinet, wished Singh on his birthday and hoped for his longer life. Chidambaram, who is under judicial custody currently said, "I have asked my family to tweet on my behalf the following: Happy birthday to Dr. Manmohan Singh. May he live for a 100 years and more!"

Former PM turns 87
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932, in Punjab's village of Gah before partition. He studied at the Panjab University, Cambridge and Oxford. Singh held various key positions in the government like Chief Economic Advisor, Governor of the Reserve Bank and was also the Finance Minister in PM Narasimha Rao's cabinet. He was also the leader of opposition during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
