Dr. Subramanian Swamy on Friday met President Ram Nath Kovind in the national capital over the FIR filed against Major Aditya. Dr. Swamy questioned the decision by the CM Mehbooba Mufti-led government to file an FIR against Major Aditya and further demanded the withdrawal of the FIR. Following the meeting, Dr Swamy spoke to Republic TV and said,
“I went to meet the President because of the FIR filed in Kashmir against Major Aditya. The FIR has been filed for a brave act by the Major when his truck was surrounded by those crying for blood. The Major had no alternative but to fire. ”
He further added, “It is surprising that the Chief Minister filed an FIR naming the Major and the jawans. Under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act which applies in Shopian, Section 7 states that the state government cannot register an FIR without prior sanction of the Central Government. This matter came up in the J&K Assembly and Mehbooba Mufti said she spoke to Nirmala Seetaram, who further gave the go ahead. There is a rule of law. I have verified that there is no sanction. “
Earlier on Thursday, Republic World exclusively accessed a letter written by Dr. Subramanian Swamy to President Ram Nath Kovind in which he questioned Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s silence on the FIR filed against the Indian Army in Shopian.
In the letter, Dr. Swamy demanded that Ms. Sitharaman
“make a clarificatory statement on whether she had indeed given the J&K Government the required Sanction or nod for the treacherous FIR, which today has demoralized the Army whose jawans and officers are getting killed almost daily in J&K defending the integrity of our nation.”
