  • Nitish Kumar government Minister met with Miss India 2019 on Tuesday, while continues to evade questions from the media over the Bihar medical crisis
  • The photograph of Deputy CM of Bihar meeting with Miss India 2019 was shared on his Twitter handle.
  • The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the government and the Centre, asking them to submit a response on the deaths within seven days (July 1).

The misplaced priorities of the Nitish Kumar government have been brazenly put to display with the Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi meeting with Miss India 2019 Suman Rao on Tuesday, amid the deepening medical crisis in Bihar.

Despite the death toll of children in Bihar rising to over 200, the BJP-JDU government has failed to curb the crisis or even take accountability for it.  However, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state found the time to meet with the Miss India 2019 and blatantly share the photographs from the meeting.

Amid the demand for the chief minister Nitish Kumar to resign from his position in the wake of a medical predicament, the government faced severe flak for their passivity in dealing with the issue and for persistently evading the questions from the media over the same. Moreover, no tweet or statement has been recorded by the Centre or any Union Ministers over the medical emergency.

The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the government and the Centre, asking them to submit a response on the deaths within seven days (July 1).

Due to the inadequacy of the Bihar government in the treatment of the children, lack of nutrition and sanitation conditions in the hospitals, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai has directed the Bihar government to file an affidavit in the matter.

During the hearing, one of the lawyers informed the court that similar deaths had occurred earlier in Uttar Pradesh, news agency PTI reported.

Taking note of the same, the court has directed the Bihar government to file a response. Meanwhile, the matter has been posted for hearing after 10 days in the apex court.

This development has come days after Republic investigative team discovered human skeletal remains behind SKMC Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar amid encephalitis outbreak. The visuals showed the skull and limbs of the skeletal behind the premises of Muzaffarpur hospital. While the principal of the medical college said that a report in the matter has been sent to Muzaffarpur District Magistrate who suggested that the skeletal belonged to animals, Bihar Health Ministry was forced to order a probe into the matter.
