Earthquake of magnitude 5.5 in Arunachal Pradesh, 4th one within 24 hours

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was felt again at 4:24 am in Arunachal Pradesh. The epicentre was East Kameng district. This is the 4th quake in less than 24 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department tweeted with details on the earthquake. 

On Friday, a minor earthquake of 5.5 magnitude was felt in the North-eastern state in the afternoon. The epicentre of the quake was at the depth of 16.8 km and was located 64 km northeast of Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh, as per the US Geological Survey. Tremors of the quake were also felt in Assam. The earthquake was reported at around 3:19 PM IST.

Arunachal Pradesh government later issued a statement saying:

"5.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at 2:52 PM. The epicentre of the earthquake was at East Kameng district. Two aftershocks of the quake were also felt at 3:04 PM and 3:21 PM in Kurung Kumey district. No damage has been reported."

As the state went through a natural calamity, China attempted to use the earthquake to needle India over its border, with state-run CGTN reporting the epicentre as Shannan in the Tibetan autonomous region.
