The followers of Islam across the country will be celebrating Eid-al-Adha or 'Feast of the Sacrifice' on August 21. The festival is one of the two Islamic holidays, first being Eid-al-Fitr. The name of the festival comes from the legend associated with it. The Islamic holiday is called the Feast of Sacrifice or the Festival of Sacrifice as it is celebrated in honour of Ibrahim or Abraham, who was willing to sacrifice his 13-year son in his obedience to Allah, who had asked him to sacrifice something or someone dear to him. However, before he could sacrifice his son, God replaced his son with a goat to award his obedience and willingness to sacrifice his dear son. To commemorate God's reward for Abraham's sacrifice, an animal is sacrificed, divided into three parts and distributed among the needy, relatives, friends, family and neighbours. After special prayers and the sacrifice, the friends and family get together to cook and fest on various mutton-based delicacies.
