Encounter underway between security forces and terrorists in North Kashmir's Sopore

Update at 2:45 PM: Jammu and Kashmir Police released a statement after the conclusion of the operation: 

"As the search operation was going on, the hiding terrorists fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were neutralized. The identity of the killed terrorists is being ascertained. In the initial exchange of fire, one security forces` jawan received serious bullet injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. However, the injured jawan succumbed at the hospital. He has been identified as Lance Naik Brijesh Kumar of 22RR.  
Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police 
has registered a case in this regard and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter. Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any."


In an encounter between the Indian security forces and terrorists on Friday, in Malganipora area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a soldier of 22 RR identified as Brijesh Kumar has succumbed to his injuries. Two terrorists have also been gunned down during the joint search and cordon operation of the Special Operations Group of Police (SOG), 22 RR and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) in Sopore district on Friday morning.

However, sources have stated that other terrorists seem to have escaped from the encounter site. The security forces have also recovered arms and ammunition from the terrorists. The encounter site is being sanitized by the forces. The search and cordon operation was carried in Sopore after the security forces received inputs of the presence of terrorists in the area.

Previously, security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Thursday, October 25, based on credible input about the presence of the terrorists in Khar Mohalla of Arwani in Bijbehara district in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag city. The security forces gunned down four terrorists after a massive encounter.

The terrorists who were gunned down during the cordon and search operation on Thursday have been identified as Owais Lone (Hizbul Mujahideen), Sahir Makroo (Hizbul Mujahideen), Muzamil Magray (LeT) and Amir Tantray (LeT).
