On Wednesday, June 26, Congress president Rahul Gandhi held yet another meeting insisting on his resignation while the entire Congress party telling him to continue on his post. The Congress party started a Twitter campaign under the name of #MyLeaderRahulGandhi.
The hashtag was trending in the early hours of the day, however, when taken a closer look, it proved to be bots and manufactured content. Congress official handles all around the country tweeted using the hashtag. However, most of the tweets read the same text.
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers also held a demonstration right outside the residence of Congress President Rahul Gandhi urging him to reconsider his resignation and continue as the party President. Talking to the media a Youth Congress leader and MLA from Hindoli, Rajasthan Ashok Chandana said:
"Winning or losing elections is part and parcel of politics. Rahul Gandhi has fought with sincerity and challenged the money power and propagandist policies of the ruling dispensation,"
Disruptions within the Congress Party have risen after Rahul Gandhi offered to step down as the Congress President taking moral responsibility for the defeat in the polls. But the decision was unanimously rejected by the CWC which ordered him to do a complete overhaul and restructure the party at every level. Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, but lost to BJP's Smriti Irani from Amethi known to be Congress bastion.
