After Republic broke the exclusive story entailing documents and trails that links Congress president Rahul Gandhi's direct business dealings with people and personnel being probed for scams under the UPA government back then, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy speaking to Republic over the issue stated, that the ones who were shouting 'Chor Chor' are 'Chor' themselves.
Swamy said that he was aware of this even back then however he did not receive the documents acquired by Republic now and hence he did not file it with the Supreme Court. He further added that the government must urge the investigation agencies to initiate a probe against the Gandhi scion under money laundering case.
He said, "I'm not surprised, I knew it even back then. Because Unitech is not a telecom company and it still got spectrum license and on 1/10th of the market price, on first come basis. Along with them, even Shahid Balwa was there and he received the 2G license on 1/10th value. But back then, I did not receive documents for these dealings, hence I did not file it with Supreme Court. But this came out in the end when our government was there for the initial 3-4 years, even then it was difficult for me to acquire this, so back then we only concentrated on Chidambaram because it was assured by the FIPB that this was corruption."
"I feel the government should tell the CBI and ED if CBI registers this then automatically ED will file a money laundering case and everybody should know," he added.
Moreover, Swamy attacked Rahul Gandhi's 'Chowkidar chor hai' jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and stated that 'Parivar chor hai' (the Nehru family is a thief), accusing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of 'stealing' jewellery from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
He said, "Till now he has been saying that 'Chowkidar chor hai' I would like to say that 'Parivar chor hai' and this Nehru family is a thief. Even Nehru stole the jewellery from Subhash Chandra Bose that he had collected, to fight. Indira Gandhi has done so many scams, Bofors scam during Rajiv Gandhi and now this is being disclosed, more will come out, there's a lot."
"Our government didn't pay attention much initially in terms of corruption in the first four years. The Finance Ministry was alarmed and today this came out, I say this is great, the ones who were shouting 'Chor, Chor' they are only the 'Chors'," he added.
Congratulating Republic for their exclusive story, Swamy urged the CBI and ED to register a case for money laundering.
He said, "CBI should register an FIR and ED should file a money laundering case. So if you've shown it, that means you have the documents that I don't so this is a big thing and I'd like to congratulate Republic for doing this."
In the first of a two-part expose, the documents Republic Media Network has accessed reveal that Rahul Gandhi partook in a commercial property transaction with one of the main accused in the notorious 2G spectrum allocation that had rocked the nation when its details and scope had come out. The entity being probed was Sanjay Chandra-led Unitech and the documents reveal not only the initial transactions of Rahul Gandhi but also a string of payments that continued after that.
