  • Alexandre Ziegler expressed solidarity with India in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack and promised full support to India in its quest to defeat terrorism
  • The French Ambassador further mentioned that his country will work closely with India to fight terrorism, which has not only caused damage to India, but even to France in the past

A day after France confirmed it will be moving a resolution at the United Nations seeking to designate JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, the country's ambassador to India reiterated his nation's stand that terrorism at any level will not be tolerated.

Speaking exclusively to Republic TV on the sidelines of the Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru, Alexandre Ziegler expressed solidarity with India in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack and promised full support to India in its quest to defeat terrorism.

"We have a very clear stand. Terrorism cannot be tolerated. There can't be a situation where the leader of the group, who has claimed responsibility for an awful attack which happened last week, should not be designated (as a terrorist). He has to be designated. We are trying to put him on the list since the past two years, and we have launched another initiative today in New York so that it can be included in the UN sanction list," he said.

The French Ambassador further mentioned that his country will work closely with India to fight terrorism, which has not only caused damage to India, but even to France in the past.

"For the moment, we are working on listing Masood Azhar. He is a leader of a terrorist group which has claimed responsibility of an attack which killed 40 Indian citizens (CRPF Jawans). So, we have to take action on this. Being a friend of India, being a country which has fought (sic) and combated terrorism, which has suffered from terrorism some years ago, we have to act in close co-ordination with our Indian partners on this," Ziegler added.

Major Embarrassment For Pakistan As France, US And UK To Move Resolution In UN Seeking To Designate Masood Azhar As A Global Terrorist

On Tuesday, the pressure on Pakistan to acknowledge and act against terrorism increased as sources close to the French government said that they will move a proposal at the UNSC 1267 Committee to designate the Pakistani-based JeM chief as a global terrorist, a move which will be backed by India.

Republic TV also learnt that along with France, US and UK will also support the proposal and the countries will together move the resolution at the UNSC.
