Former ISRO scientist who received the Padma Bhushan for his contribution at the space organisation spoke to Republic TV about the recent honour and on being cleared of charges of being a spy and receiving full justice.

He also spoke about the upcoming movie on his life 'Rocketry- The Nambi Effect', which is directed by R Madhavan and starred by him.

On receiving the Padma Bhushan on 70th Republic Day:

"I am happy to receive the Padma Bhushan. Though late, I am happy about the acknowledgement of my contribution," he said.

On former Kerala police chief TP Senkumar calling him a 'below-average scientist'.

"Whatever is his comment I don't want to comment on that as TP Senkumar's comment does not deserve my reaction as it would be stooping down from my own level. I don't care to comment on that," he said.

On support from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 'spy case':

"He must have got the papers and documents on my contribution and educational qualifications. He must have looked at all the data.

"People say I am a diploma holder but I have an engineering degree from Princeton. I am a proud Princetonian. Above all, the Vikas engine that I developed is flown successfully without a single failure for past 44-45 flights, it is used in Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan, and maybe Gaganyaan. He must have been backing me since he has got all data on me," he said.

On the backlash against him by certain groups in Kerala following the Padma honour:

"I don't think they are undermining my work, I don't think they are against me. I think it is their defence. They are scared because of the Supreme Court recommended committee which started from Monday. As per the SC order, the committee has to find erring officials who have fabricated this case.

"Basically, the case is a fabricated one as per CBI and has been accepted by High Court, Supreme Court, not once but twice. The September 4 judgment categorically said the case is malicious prosecution and has ordered to give me compensation Rs 50 lakhs. The spy case is a closed chapter.

"They do not want the committee to function and do not want the culprits to be found. They are retaliating by spreading false information about me," he said.

What has changed in my life since being cleared in the spy case:

"I am a little bit relaxed. Mentally and physically I can do more work. I am just waiting anxiously for the results of the committee. I am certain that guilty wil be punished," he said.

"Madhavan may get an Oscar for 'Rocketry- The Nambi Effect'"

"It was funny to look at myself on the screen. He (R Madhavan) is also looking like me. I think the movie is coming out in a beautiful manner. I feel emotional when saw shots from the film.

"I am sure the movie will make you feel emotional. Madhavan could get an Oscar for his performance," he said.

On his future plans:

"I could not spend time with my family. As I wrote in my book, I am not a good husband or good father, I am trying to be both," he said.
