EXCLUSIVE STING: Chhattisgarh Congress Leader Takes Pro-Maoist Stand, Says, 'Are They India's Enemies?'

The Congress General Secretary of Chhattisgarh, Ramesh Varliyani taking a pro-Maoist stand questioned the manner in which the Leftist insurgents are being 'treated'.

In Republic Bharat's exclusive sting, the Congress leader , oblivious to the violence instigated by the Maoists in returned questioned if they are the "enemies of the country"  

In a 20-odd seconds conversation, here is what the Congress leader said: 

  • Ramesh Varliyani: Tell me, are they enemies of our country? 
  • Reporter: No, who?
  • Ramesh Varliyani:Naxals, their path is of violence and we want a path without violence. This is the only difference. 
  • Reporter: But, you can't call them patriots 
  • Ramesh Varliyani: I am not calling them patriots
  • Reporter: You are saying they're not enemies of india
  • Ramesh Varliyani: I'm not calling them patriots, but it's the way they are being treated. Jayprakash ji got dacoits to surrender.

This comes on the day when Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) in order to blow up the police vehicle on the Kurkheda-Korchi road in Gadchiroli. 15 police personnel of the C60 Commando and their driver have been killed in the attack.

Prime Minister Modi condemned the attack, saluting the brave forces and affirmed that their sacrifices will not be forgotten. 

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday tweeted expressing grief about the Maoist attack in Gadchiroli in which 16 jawans have been martyred.

He said that the Home Ministry is in constant touch with the state administration
