Politics in Tamil Nadu has been fluid with many fluctuations after the demise of two legendary leaders J.Jayalalithaa and DMK Patriarch Karunanidhi. The state witnessed many changes since December of 2016 and the political transition is still on with many existing leaders and new players as well.

DMK president MK Stalin's elevation from working president to president after the demise of its earlier chief  Karunanidhi was already decided. On the other side, MK Alagiri, son of Karunanidhi and elder brother of MK Stalin who was expelled from the party in the year 2014 has been levelling allegations against the new party's leadership stating that the party will soon vanish with this existing leadership & MK Stalin was conspiring against Alagiri to keep him away from the party when Karunanidhi was alive.

The rally conducted by MK Alagiri in Chennai on 5th of September didn't make any difference in DMK & MK Stalin was still intact given the support from all the party district secretaries & senior leaders.

MK Alagiri infact told that he is ready to accept the leadership of MK Stalin since there is no other go & told he is ready to work together with Stalin to make the party stronger. But MK Stalin didn't even give a chance anticipating many issues.

MK Alagiri had now told that he is ready to contest in Tiruvarur by-elections (the constituency of demised DMK patriarch Karunanidhi) if his supports request him to contest.

Tiruvarur and Thiruparankundram constituency by-elections are toughest challenges which is awaiting for Stalin to prove his leadership as DMK already faced a massive debacle in RK Nagar by polls to independent candidate TTV Dinakaran & even lost the deposit being the opposition party with 89 MLAs on the floor.

That was a major setback for who was the working president Mk Stalin, MK Alagiri had now told that he will contest in Tiruvarur by-election if his supporters insist him to & the decision will be taken when the election is announced.

Tiruvarur is also a very strong base for Amma Makkal Munnetra kazhagam leader TTV Dinakaran as he belongs to that place & he also have huge cadre strength there. So it'll be a tough fight for DMK if Alagiri also jumps onto the wagon of by polls.

Political commentators say that MK Alagiri cannot make any big difference if he contests, but he can divide votes of DMK which perhaps can give a chance for TTV Dinakaran to win the election, given the fact that he belongs to the region.

DMK leaders who spoke to us told that MK Alagiri is irrelevant at Tiruvarur and  he cannot even gain the deposit there & DMK is sen percent confidence about the victory in the Tiruvarur by-elections.
