Maharashtra's now acting CM Devendra Fadnavis tendered his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhawan on Friday, November 8. During a press conference afterwards, Fadnavis launched a fierce attack on the Shiv Sena. Fadnavis alleged that the Shiv Sena leaders made jibes against the top leadership of the BJP including PM Modi and those kinds of statements were not tolerable.
Devendra Fadnavis said, "Balasaheb Thackeray is highly respected by all of us. The idea of even disrespecting him hasn't crossed the minds of anyone in the party. In fact, we have never even said anything against Uddhav Thackeray Ji. However, in the past 5 years and especially last 10 days the kind of statements which were made against our top leadership including Modi Ji, were not tolerable."
Furthermore, Fadnavis went on to say that, "We understand that if opposition leaders attack us. But when our own allies, who are in alliance with us in the Centre as well as in the state, insult our topmost leaders, it is unacceptable. In fact, even the Congress hasn't made the kind of statements against Modiji, that the Shiv Sena have made."
Fadnavis mentioned that he has a very close relationship with Uddhav Thackeray and it will continue. He further said that he had called Uddhav Thackeray many times but he has not responded yet. Fadnavis further added that Shiv Sena is 100% responsible for talks failing between the two parties and they did not take his calls. "They stopped the discussion. The alliance is not broken yet, neither they announced nor us. Our parties are still together in the Centre," Fadnavis said.
Devendra Fadnavis while addressing the media said, "I have just met the Governor and submitted my resignation and he has accepted it. I would like to thank the people of Maharashtra for accepting me for the last 5 years. I would also thank Amit Shah and PM Modi, all the ministers who I worked with, as well as all the officials who worked with me. I also take this opportunity to thank Sena ministers who were a part of my government. I got an opportunity to serve the people of Maharashtra and I am grateful. We have worked for the development and we have diligently served the people of Maharashtra."
Ever since the results of the Maharashtra General Assembly were declared, the BJP and Shiv Sena have been at loggerheads over who will get what portfolio. Shiv Sena has been demanding BJP to respect a '50-50' seat-sharing formula to form the government. The Shiv Sena has demanded equal power-sharing in the state, including being vocal about the installation of Aaditya Thackeray. Meanwhile, the BJP has insisted that Devendra Fadnavis will return as the Chief Minister.
