As the window to form government in Maharashtra closes, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis submitted his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Friday ending his tenure as the Maharashtra Chief Minister. Fadnavis addressed the media soon after submitting his resignation and thanked the people for accepting him as the CM for the last five years. Fadnavis proceeded to slam the Shiv Sena in an extraordinary briefing and alleged that there were no talks of the '50-50 formula' in front of him. He also alleged that he called Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray several times but he never received his calls.
Devendra Fadnavis while addressing the media said, "I have just met the Governor and submitted my resignation and he has accepted it. I would like to thank the people of Maharashtra for accepting for the last 5 years. I would also thank Amit Shah and PM Modi, all the ministers who I worked with as well as all the officials who worked with me. I also take this opportunity to thank Sena ministers who were a part of my government. I got an opportunity to serve the people of Maharashtra and I am grateful. We have worked for the development and we have diligently served the people of Maharashtra."
The BJP leader also spoke about 50-50 formula which the Sena alleged was promised to them before the Maharashtra elections, and over which there continues to be a deadlock over government formation. "I am making this clear that there were no talks of 50-50 formula between the BJP-Sena and no promises of 2.5-year tenure of Chief Minister from each party were also made. I am unaware of such any talks between Sena and BJP because they were not done in front of me. If there were talks between Amit Shah and Uddhav Thackeray then I am not in a position to comment because they did not take place in front of me. I have had very personal relations with Uddhav Thackeray. I personally made calls to Uddhav Thackeray but he did not receive my calls," he said
Fadnavis also lashed out at Sena for holding backdoor talks with NCP and Congress. Fadnavis added, "The people chose Mahayuti. All MLAs of Shiv Sena were also chosen because all the votes were going to Mahayuti that is why we are also puzzled why the Sena chief made such a statement. It is unfortunate that certain statements were made by certain leaders in the media. We were open for talks but Shiv Sena never came ahead for talks. They did not have time to meet me or with BJP but they spoke to NCP and Congress every day. They held backdoor talks with NCP and Congress but did not speak with the BJP which means it was pre-decided to go with NCP and Congress and not with BJP."
