Former Union Minister and BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand has had a first information report (FIR) filed against him by the Uttar Pradesh Police after the disappearance of a complainant who had accused him of sexual harassment. The victim had gone missing following the release of a video clip where had alleged that Chindmayanand had been harassing her.
Chinmayanand is the director of Swami Shukdevanand Postgraduate College in Shahjahanpur, and in the video in which the allegations were made on August 23, the victim alleged that Chinmayanand had threatened to kill her and her family as she was in possession of proof that could land him in a lot of trouble. She further accuses the BJP leader of "destroying the lives of several girls" and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene and help her. The NCW has also taken cognisance of the matter
According to the Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) S Chanappad, the Swami Chinmayanand has been booked under Section 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complainant who effected the FIR - the father of the victim - accused Swami of having sexually harassed his daughter. Chinmayanand’s lawyer denied the charges and claimed it was ‘a conspiracy” to blackmail Chinmayanand.
SP S Chanapaad on Wednesday said: "Our team is investigating and the girl's father has been provided security.” The SP said the video will be examined by Senior officers and action will be taken against those who are found guilty. The victim’s father has filed a written complaint against Swami wherein he accuses the former minister of sexually harassing his daughter. The father further alleges that apart from Chinmayanand there are “some others” involved and it is not just his daughter that has suffered.
