With Eid to be observed on Saturday or Sunday depending on how celestial bodies align, the celebration of the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan has already begun!
In a month that is well renowned for the delectable food that is on offer each evening as lakhs of people break their day-long fasts, a restaurant in Lucknow has added its own twist to the feasting.
The restaurant has fashioned two varieties of the popular sweet sevaiyan which is made, at the minimum, with vermicelli, milk and sugar. And the two varieties have been named in honour of two leaders who have over the years demonstrated their popularity in the state.
One of the sevaiyans is named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is a Member of Parliament from Varanasi in the state, while the other is named after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who was a Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur for two decades before resigning to take up the top office in the state.
Yogi Adityanath's Sevaiyan is called the "Yogi ji Maharaj Special EID Siwain" and appears to favour ghee and dry fruits over milk. It looks like a very rich sevaiyan and is priced at Rs 100 per cup or Rs 1200 per kg. The sevaiyan named after PM Modi, on the other hand, is called 'Modern India Modi ji Special EID Siwain' and seems to be heavily milk-based with what may be bits of fruit to give it that modern, healthy effect. It costs Rs 800 per kg and Rs 60 per cup.
The owner has said: 'we have named one after Yogi Ji since it's made in 'handi' in a traditional way & one after Modi Ji since it's a fusion of both modern & traditional ways'.
