The situation in Kashmir remains on the edge as late night on Sunday, Section 144 was imposed across Srinagar and former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference president Sajad Lone were taken into preventive custody. 

Centre stepped up security deployment at vital installations and sensitive areas amid heightened terror threat and a flare-up of hostilities with Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC).

Barricades have been erected on many arterial roads, including the entry and exit points to Srinagar, the summer capital of the state.

Riot control vehicles have also been kept on standby in some areas where the apprehension of law and order disturbances is more, the officials added

After the Jammu and Kashmir government curtailed the Amarnath Yatra and asked tourists to leave the valley on Friday, anxious residents continued to throng markets to stock essentials and serpentine queues were visible outside shops and fuel stations. 

The strength of security forces was amped up in the valley and 38,000 armed personnel in total were deployed in Jammu and Kashmir last week. 

Home Minister Amit Shah, NSA Ajit Doval high-level meet

Earlier on Sunday, Home Minister Amit Shah held high-level meet with Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and with other top security officials.

As per reports, the Home Minister is also likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir for a couple of days after the conclusion of the Parliament session on August 7. Amit Shah's visit may come before the Independence Day on August 15, amid the prevailing security tensions in the Valley in the aftermath of the curtailment of the Amarnath Yatra by the state government. 

All-party meet in Kashmir 

Leaders of the mainstream Kashmiri political parties held an all-party meet on Sunday, centered around the prevailing tensions in the valley, NC chief Farooq Abdullah in a subsequent press brief accentuated on the crucial aspects that were discussed in the meeting. 

The meeting was held at NC chief Farooq Abdullah's residence and was attended by NC leader Omar Abdullah, political rivals PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, J&K People's Conference president Sajad Lone and others to discuss the situation in the state. 

Following the meeting, Abdullah said, "It was unanimously resolved that all the parties would be united in their resolve to protect and defend identity, anonymity and the special status of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh against all attack and onslaught whatsoever."

India-Pakistan skirmish 

The meeting came amid skirmishes between Army of India and Pakistan along the border with the Army foiling an attack by BAT on a forward post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector, killing five to seven intruders

As per news agency ANI, the Indian Army has asked Pakistan to approach with a white flag and take over the dead bodies for last rites. However, Pakistan refused to claim the bodies.

The Jammu district administration asked authorities of schools and colleges to remain closed on Monday as a precautionary measure, officials said.

"All schools, colleges, and academic institutions, both private and government, are advised to remain closed as a measure of caution," Deputy Commissioner of Jammu Sushma Chauhan said on Sunday night.
