Four members of a family including a 10-year-old girl were found dead under suspicious circumstances at their house in Wanaparthy district on Friday, police said.

As some lemons and coconut were found near a pit in the backyard of their house in Nagapur village of Revalli mandal of the district some villagers are suspecting if 'Kshudra Pooja' (Black Magic) was performed, they said.

The bodies of an elderly woman, in her 60s, her daughter, mid-30s, son-in-law, in his 40s and the girl child, with injury marks on her cheek and a leg, were found lying in different parts of the house, police said.

Based on preliminary investigation, a police official said they suspected that the family members might have comitted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at around midnight on Thursday, though there are some injury marks on the girl's body.

Neighbours found the four dead today morning and alerted the police.

"A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reasons for their deaths," the official said, adding a few years ago the elderly woman had allegedly got someone to perform "black magic" for some hidden treasure.
