Gadchiroli Attack: Javed Akhtar condemns the Maoist IED attack in Maharashtra as 'senseless and barbaric', says it's nothing but terrorism. Read here

Here's what Javed Akhtar said after 16 jawans lost their lives in the Maoist attack in Maharashtra.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar took to his Twitter handle on Wednesday expressing anger about the Maoist attack in Gadchiroli in which 16 jawans were martyred.

He condemned the attack calling it 'senseless and barbaric'. He wrote: "What has happened in Gadchiroli is senseless and barbaric . This is nothing but terrorism that shouldn’t be tolerated." [sic]

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the 'despicable attack' on security personnel in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli that martyred 16 of the forces of the C60 Commando Unit. He wrote: "Strongly condemn the despicable attack on our security personnel in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. I salute all the brave personnel. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. My thoughts & solidarity are with the bereaved families. The perpetrators of such violence will not be spared." [sic]

Gadchiroli Police sources told Republic Media Network that last night around 200-250 Maoist attacked a construction site and these Maoists are known to be a part of the Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh Dalam (Naxal units). 

The incident happened when 20 jawans of Quick Response Team were on their way to the sight where the Maoists burnt the vehicles later last night on April 30. Meanwhile, the injured jawans have been shifted to the nearby hospital. 

A group of Maoists had burnt more than 27 vehicles and construction machines at the NH27 construction site at Kurkheda in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. 

About the attack:

An IED blast was carried out by Maoists on a police vehicle on Wednesday in Gadchiroli area of Maharashtra. As per reports, several officers of the C60 Commando Unit have suffered injuries. 

The incident happened when 20 jawans of Quick Response Team were on their way to the sight where the Maoists burnt the vehicles later last night on April 30.  Meanwhile, the injured jawans have been shifted to the nearby hospital. More details awaited.
