The killing of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Manan Wani was a huge success for the security forces in Kashmir. Him being gunned down signaled a statement that terrorism of any kind will not be tolerated by India. But rather than celebrating the fact that a terrorist was killed, politics was played over his death by some leaders, who termed him as a 'PhD scholar' and an 'educated boy'.

Joining into the discussion about the killing of the HM commander is India's cricketing superstar Gautam Gambhir. The Delhi-born cricketer, in a message on Twitter, hit out at the political parties and leaders in J&K, terming them as the reason behind people like Manan Wani leaving books and picking up guns.

"Mannan Wani’s death: We killed a terrorist and lost a radicalised talent. @OmarAbdullah @MehboobaMufti @INCIndia @BJP4India all should bow their heads in embarrassment that they left a young man drift from books to embrace bullet," his tweet read.

His tweet displeased former CM of the state Omar Abdullah. The NC leader took offence to Gambhir's views, and stated that he knows nothing about the situation in Kashmir. His Twitter post read,

"This man wouldn’t be able to find Manan’s home district on a map much less his village & yet he presumes to know what drives young men in Kashmir to pick up the gun. Mr Gambhir clearly knows less about Kashmir than I do about cricket & I know almost nothing."

It was then followed by Gambhir accusing Omar Abdullah of 'talking Kashmir to Pakistan'.

Omar Abdullah didn't hold back, and he stated that the cricketer has 'no idea about sacrifice'.

After the former CM of J&K mentioned the loss of personnel his party has faced in the hands of the terrorists, Gambhir hit back by saying that all Omar Abdullah does is 'lip service in 280 characters on social media'.

Manan Wani, along with another terrorist named Asiq Tanwari were gunned down by the security forces in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara on Thursday. Soon after, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti condemned his killing.

Rather than praising the forces for their brave act, she termed the terrorist as a 'scholar' and 'educated boy', while calling for talks to be held with Pakistan.
