Gautam Gambhir on Delhi: Crime should be met with contempt

In the event of increasing incidents of crime in the national capital, East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir said that he will take the matter to the concerned forum

In the light of rising incidents of crime in the national capital, East Delhi MP and BJP leader Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter and said that he is appalled over the matter. Asserting that Delhi is very close to his heart, he said that incidents of crimes should be met with contempt, specifically if they are against women, children and elderly. Gautam Gambhir further said that he is appalled that the incident of crime happened in broad daylight, adding that he will take up the issues at an appropriate forum.

Rising crimes in Delhi

Gautam Gambhir's tweet has come in the wake of increasing incidents of crime in the South Delhi area. On September 23, two bike-borne robbers snatched a cellphone from a woman journalist in South-East Delhi's Okhla area. On the same day, another woman journalist was attacked by two-bike borne robbers in a moving auto-rickshaw near the CR Park area. While the Delhi police has registered FIRs in the matter, no strict action have been taken against the robbers. On Tuesday, an assistant sub-inspector and two constables were suspended in the matter over poor policing. Meanwhile, the suspects, who attacked the journalist in CR Park, have been caught on CCTV camera.

Delhi gets 112 single Emergency helpline number

On Wednesday, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy launched the single emergency helpline number 112 for immediate assistance. Along with the single helpline number, he also launched the ''Prakhar'' vans that will take control of the street crimes in the city. Speaking in the matter, DCP (Operations and Communications) SK Singh said that the police response time will reduce with the implementation of new Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112). The Delhi Police has also inducted 15 Scorpios with modern devices for extensive patrolling in street crime prone areas of the national capital.
