Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girish Chodankar on Saturday wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, seeking increased security cover for Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. This has come days after Congress president Rahul Gandhi questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Goa CM Manohar Parrikar's purported claim that he had a file on the controversial Rafale deal "lying in his bedroom".

In the letter, Girish Chodankar has stated that possible attempts may be made on the BJP leader’s life in connection with the Rafale documents that he has allegedly hidden in his 'bedroom'.

"The Congress party apprehends that attempts on the life of the chief minister Manohar Parrikar may be made to obtain the files by those who want that actual details of Rafale deal should not come in public domain as corruption in the deal will be proved,” the letter reads.

The Goa Congress president took to Twitter to post a copy of the letter to the President seeking enhancement of security for the CM.

“I request that best security cover may be provided and existing security my be enhanced for Manohar Parrikar so that he (potential threat) is adequately protected from all possible apprehended threats and that he may be able to reveal the files to the nation without any fear or favour,” the letter further says.

Earlier, attacking the Prime Minister during a debate in the Lok Sabha, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, "The Goa minister is saying clearly that Parrikar ji said in a cabinet meeting that he has a complete file on Rafale deal with all details and therefore, he can't be disturbed. There may be other such audio tapes".

The Congress along with other opposition parties are demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee(JPC) to probe the Rs 58,000 crore Rafale deal.
