Gujarat migrants' exodus: Cops to probe Alpesh Thakor's link to the hate campaign. Details here

The police have so far arrested over 300 people from various parts of Gujarat for allegedly attacking non-Gujaratis, especially those hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, following the rape of a 14-month-old girl in Sabarkantha district, a senior officer said on Sunday.

Day after Republic TV put out the video of Alpesh Thakor’s hate speech inciting violence, top police sources have told Republic that they have launched a probe into the online hate campaign. The police official sources have also said that they have reason to believe that Alpesh Thakore and his aides started the campaign. As per sources, the police have also found out that some of the posts have captions like 'Jai Alpesh, Jai Thakore Sena'. The sources have also told Republic TV that the video of Alpesh Thakor's inciting speech, that was put by Republic TV will also be made a part of official investigation and that it is also likely that complaint will be filed against Alpesh Thakor.

Earlier on Monday, Republic TV accessed a video wherein Alpesh Thakor can be seen making a divisive speech, thirteen days before tension began in Gujarat. In the video, Thakor can be seen saying, “These people who have come from outside they commit crime over here (unclear) and then beat our villagers in their own village.”

“These people who have come from outside they commit crime over here (unclear) and then beat our villagers in their own village. And after committing the crime they go back to their respective places. For them, they have jobs over here in Maruti and other companies but our people don't, they have jobs. And from now 30,000 has increased to 3 lakhs," Alpesh Thakor was seen in the video saying.

"Even if you consider that they are Indians and give them 20% jobs, sir my Gujaratis are dying due to starvation and then you cry saying that they are also Indians but tell me when my Gujaratis are thrown out from there why were you sleeping?” questioned Alpesh Thakor.

Also on Monday, Gujarat police officials identified the man who was seen threatening non-Gujaratis in a video. The Police confirmed that the man in the footage is an elected local Taluka Panchayat member of Congress named MV Thakore. The police officials also arrested three other people who were seen in the video with Thakore as well, however, MV Thakore is absconding as of now.

In the video in question, which was accessed by Republic TV, a man could be seen threatening a migrant worker in the state.
