The crop in at least 18 villages was damaged due to a hailstorm and rain here, an official said on Friday.

SDM Abhishek Goes said exact loss caused to mustered, potato and wheat crop was being ascertained for providing relief to farmers.

Meanwhile, a Bharatiya Kisan Union leader said the hailstorm and rain caused extensive damage to the crop in around 20 villages falling under Naujheel block.

BKU leader Dr Chetan Nauhar said the union would be left with no option but to hold a demonstration at the collectorate in Mathura on December 21 if prompt relief to farmers was not given.

He said while the loss to potato and mustered crop had been 100 per cent, wheat crop was damaged up to 60 per cent.

SP leader Sanjai Lathar extended full support to farmers.

"I am with farmers and any injustice on this count would not be tolerated," he added.
