Harsimrat Kaur Badal congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi for removing GST from Langar food items

Union Food Processing Minister and Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal led a team of her party leaders to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his government's initiative to remove GST from Langar food items. She was accompanied by her husband and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and Akali Dal party MPs.

It was in early last month that Badal had written to the PM requesting to grant approval for the same. 

She in fact also reached out to other Chief Ministers for support. One of the first to also support her was Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Later, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also wrote to the Centre in support. 

On 31st May 2018, the Centre notified about the "Seva Bhoj Yojna" to refund CGST and IGST on Langar served in Gurudwaras and all other religious/charitable institutions...

Interestingly, the Rakhabganj Gurdwara recently held special prayers for the good health of senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley.

When the latter's family asked for what they could offer, the Gurudwara humbly requested for GST to be removed from Langars...And the rest, as they say, is history.
