The international 'Nagar Kirtan' (religious procession) that commenced from Nanaka Sahib arrived at the historic Neem Sahib Gurudwara in Kaithal Today. The procession commenced celebrating the 550th birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev. Many followers flocked the Gurudwara today to greet the procession and paid their respects to Guru Granth Sahib. Gurudwara Neem Sahib was also illuminated on the occasion.

'The procession will travel across the country'

Talking about his excitement at the celebrations, one of the devotees expressed his gratitude to the Kirtan. "It is a matter of great good fortune that the occasion of 550th anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is being celebrated on such a grand scale. The procession started from Nankana Sahi, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Ji and it will travel across the country," he said. "I remember that the 500th birth anniversary was also celebrated with such religious fervour and enthusiasm. My only request to the coming generations to propagate Guru Nanak Ji's teachings and walk of his path," he added.

The Government of India in a statement released last year said that it will celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji.

 "Government of India will celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji, which falls next year, throughout the country and across the globe, in a grand and befitting manner along with State Governments and the Indian Missions abroad. Guru Nanak Devji's teachings of love, peace, equality and brotherhood have eternal value."

India committed towards the early completion of the Kartarpur Corridor project 

The Government approved the building and development of the Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district to the international border to felicitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahi on the banks of river Ravi in Pakistan. The External Affairs Ministry also said on Friday that India is committed towards the early completion of the Kartarpur Corridor project and has asked Pakistan to show "flexibility" on charging fees as it is a sentimental matter for the pilgrims.  

"We requested them to show flexibility as it is a sentimental matter to us but they are insisting on the fees. We have not received a reply on it and we hope we receive a response soon," he told reporters.

Dr Manmohan Singh to attend the Kartarpur Ceremony

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh accepted Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's invite to attend the Kartarpur Corridor ceremony in Pakistan along with him. The update was confirmed by the Chief Minister of Punjab's office.
