Minutes after the Patiala House Court granted Congress leader Shashi Tharoor anticipatory bail in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy said, “he ran to the court as he was afraid.” He also said that the deployment of the battery of lawyers to get Tharoor bail was unnecessary.
“The battery of lawyers were unnecessary to get the bail. This is all drama. It is fear in his mind. It is not an application by the Delhi police seeking that he should be brought in. That will be decided anyway on the 7th. There is no written submission by the Delhi police, or in the chargesheet, or any of the materials placed before the court - where anybody spoke about him being arrested, because once the chargesheet is filed, the question of further interrogation is a special provision,” said Dr Subramanian Swamy.
“He ran to the court like a frightened cat, therefore the Delhi police didn’t want to be seen complicit with him,” he added.
In a massive relief for Shashi Tharoor, the Patiala House Court on Thursday granted him anticipatory bail on Rs 1 lakh surety. The court has granted bail to the Congress leader on conditions that he will not tamper with the evidence and shall not leave India without permission.
Earlier on Wednesday, the court listed the matter for hearing on Thursday. Delhi police, during the Wednesday hearing, said that they want Shashi Tharoor’s custody.
The Delhi police while objecting to the bail said that Tharoor is an influential person and can hamper the investigation. The cops also said that they have two key witnesses and both of them are the domestic help of Tharoor.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor moved a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in the case related to the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. The politician's plea was filed before Special Judge Arvind Kumar who sought Delhi Police's response and kept it for hearing at 10 am on Wednesday. Tharoor was earlier summoned as an accused by a magisterial court for the alleged offences of abetment of suicide and committing cruelty towards Pushkar.
