US President Trump addressed the Indian-American community at the 'Howdy-Modi!' event on September 22. While acknowledging the contribution of Indian-Americans, he spoke at great length about Indo-US ties and his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President also wished Prime Minister Modi for his birthday that passed last week and said, "Everyone here joins me in wishing you a very Happy Birthday."
The President applauded the Prime Minister for his efforts in India. He said, "PM Modi is doing an exceptional job for India and for all the Indian people, it is my great pleasure to be here with him today at this profoundly historic event". Trump also congratulated PM Modi on his second term and added thet "Just a few months ago in the largest, democratic elections in the history of our world, 600 million Indians went to the polls and voted overwhelmingly for Prime Minister Modi and his party. Congratulations Prime Minister. That's a lot of people."
Prime Minister Modi in his speech at the event, spoke extensively about his relationship with President Trump. "I can say, I had a chance to meet him often and every time I found the friendliness, warmth, energy, the President of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump. This is extraordinary, this is unprecedented. I told you, we have met a few times and every time he has been the same warm, friendly, accessible, energetic and full of wit."
PM Modi said he admires Donald Trump for his sense of leadership, passion for America, a concern for every American, and a belief in American future and a resolve to make America great again. "He has already made the American economy strong again. He has achieved much for the United States and for the world," the Prime Minister added.
The Howdy Modi event is the biggest gathering of the Indian-American community in the United States. Around 50,000 people from across the United States as well as from around the world attended the event. The event will also witness a number of cultural performances that highlighted the India-US relationship. A number of secretaries, senators and officials from the United States also attended the event. The White House secretary earlier said both the leaders will discuss ways to deepen the energy and trade relationship.
