'Howdy, Modi': Republic takes you inside Houston's mammoth NRG stadium

NRG is a multi-purpose stadium and has hosted major sports events to big concerts since 2002. A seating capacity of 70,000. But will have 50,000 for Howdy Modi

With the buzz of 'Howdy Modi' the mega-event that's taking the world by storm, preparations are in full swing at the NRG Stadium. NRG is a multi-purpose stadium and has hosted major sports events to big concerts since 2002. With a seating capacity of 70,000, the complex is one of the largest stadiums in the United States of America. Preparations are being accelerated to host the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

NRG hosted international events in the past

The stadium is the home of National Football League's Houston Texans, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Texas Bowl. Many of the United States men's national soccer team's matches have been played on the venue where 'Howdy Modi' event is to be conducted. The stadium has served as the host facility for Super Bowls XXXVIII (2004) and LI (2017), and Wrestle Mania XXV (2009) as well.

The stage is set and the arrangements are made to witness the gala event on Sunday. The stadium will also host over sixty US lawmakers welcoming the Indian Prime Minister, while President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi display their bonhomie. People from 48 states of the US and different parts of the world have arrived in Houston, Texas to witness the historic event that is about to happen on Sunday.

A social entrepreneur from Singapore who arrived at the NRG Stadium for the event spoke to Republic TV about the event and called it a great celebration.

"This event has created enormous enormous amount of interest levels with the Asians and that part of the world. The prime reason is that this is the beginning to showcase the partnership between the US and India, and the two leaders coming together on a common platform in the US, I think India is making the right noises by taking the right steps and making sure that Americans are comfortable doing business in India and we have got lots of Indian-Americans doing fantastic work in this part of the world so it’s a great celebration, said Atul", a social entrepreneur from Singapore, attending the event.

About NRG stadium

The stadium can accommodate around 70,000 during an NFL game, but keeping the security in mind and the adequate spacing aspect, a capacity of 50,000 has been approved and the registrations have been closed despite more registration requests. Over 600 Indian communities in the United States have come together to make the mega event, a reality.
