Hyderabad-Guwahati Indigo flight makes emergency landing after passenger engages in unruly behavior

A Guwahati-bound flight from Hyderabad made an emergency landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Sunday after a passenger allegedly indulged in unruly behavior on board.

A Guwahati-bound flight from Hyderabad made an emergency landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Sunday after a passenger allegedly indulged in unruly behavior on board. 

The IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Guwahati landed in Bhubaneswar after it was diverted under the emergency protocol. The 20-year-old  Irshad Ali  was deplaned and handed over to the airport police, officials at the airport said. 

The passengers on board were scared after the man created a ruckus and even tried to open a door of the aircraft, a police officer said, adding, the man had violated safety norms despite repeated warnings. It was reported that he started yelling, standing on the seat and disobeying instructions of the crew.

The man was taken to the Capital Hospital here after he was deplaned, the police officer said. The person is reportedly mentally unstable. The flight took off for Guwahati after offloading the passenger at 7.13 am and reached the destination around 8.30 am, an official at the airport said. 

In a similar instance a few weeks back, a woman on Pakistan International Airlines flight PK 702, heading to Islamabad from Manchester airport had opened the emergency door thinking it's the toilet door.

A PIA spokesperson said, “The PIA flight, PK 702, from Manchester to Islamabad was delayed by seven hours. The departure was delayed on Friday night when a passenger erroneously opened the emergency exit causing the emergency chute to activate. As per standard operating procedure, the PIA had to offload nearly 40 passengers and their luggage. They will be adjusted on the next available flight,” he said.

According to the reports, the spokesperson had also informed that passengers were provided with transportation and hotel accommodation and investigation into this episode was also conducted.
